With funding from the Pilgrim Trust, the MMHA is working with Sunderland Counselling Service and Ways to Wellness to deliver a new Young Mums Maternal Mental Health Link Worker Service in the North East of England.
This service builds on insights gained across all three organisations supporting the mental health of young mothers, including our work during the Covid-19 pandemic and previous collaborations focused on improving care for under-25s.
The project aims to provide timely, flexible, relationship-based support for young mothers aged 16–25, ensuring they receive emotional and practical help that complements existing mental health services in the region.
By drawing on earlier joint projects, this work will help us co-design new solutions with young mums and understand how services can better respond to their unmet needs.
• A dedicated link worker service
Delivered by Sunderland Counselling Service, this specialist role provides:
• Turning insight into better support
Ways to Wellness will collect case studies, stories, and service insights to help understand what works, and where barriers remain, so we can refine and strengthen the support offer.
• Influencing policy and improving systems
The MMHA will lead on sharing learning nationally and locally, helping shape policy and service improvement for young mothers across the UK.
