The silence around perinatal mental health has lingered for too long. At least 1 in 5 mums and 1 in 10 dads or partners experience mental health problems during pregnancy and after birth, but stigma and a lack of awareness can leave them feeling isolated, afraid, and to blame.

The reality is that perinatal mental health challenges are common; the most common complication of pregnancy and the postnatal period in fact. And yet, 70% of mothers hide or downplay their struggles.

Tomorrow, 10th October, the Maternal Mental Health Alliance (MMHA) is launching our first-ever matched fundraising campaign with The Big Give, and we’re inviting you to be part of it.

From 10th to 17th October, every donation made via the Big Give website (up to our target) will be doubled!

Our goal is to raise £10,000 (£20,000 in total) to build a new content hub for parents; a place where they can find credible information, learn about mental health before, during, and after pregnancy, and feel reassured that they are not alone. We want this hub to be a beacon of hope, a space that inspires sensitive, nuanced conversations about perinatal mental health and encourages parents to seek support when they need it.

We know that breaking the cycle of silence is not easy, but it is possible. Together, we can bring perinatal mental health out of the shadows and into the light.

How you can help

All donations made via the Big Give website during 10th to 17th October will be doubled by The Big Give Trust until we reach our target. If you are eligible and say 'yes' to Gift Aid when you donate, we will receive 25% more, meaning your £20 donation could turn into £45!

Double your donation.  Double your difference.

Other ways to get involved

We know how precious every penny is at the moment. If you can't afford to donate to the campaign, you can still show your support by:

  1. Following the #OutOfTheShadows campaign on Instagram and LinkedIn
  2. Sharing our content, or creating your own

Help us break the silence around perinatal mental health and create a culture where parents can speak up and seek help without fear or shame.
